Moral Imperative

When teachers decide to become teachers I believe they have the notion somewhere in their head that they can make a difference for every student that they teach. Why is it that some of us forget that it is all about learning - simple, powerful and memorable? We all need to be learners and we all need to respect what it means to be a learner.
Michael Fullan's new book "The Moral Imperative Realized" focuses on the action needed by everyone involved in improving lives and society.

  1. It is all about learning and enjoying the process. I think that there is a shift and a refocussing on "learning" in education since there is a move from the traditional/industrial age to "non-traditional"/conceptual age" and that we need to really focus on what engages learners to ensure that everyone is learning.

  2. As we continue to collaborate and eliminate the barriers that have people "teaching in isolation", teachers can get deeper into their learning and planning for individual students’ needs. As we become designers of learning for students, start to teach together, and have reflective conversations about specific instruction, we can together pin point and refine our teaching. I think that teachers have gone into the profession because they believe they can make a difference for each student they teach. As students begin to have success, the realization that they know how to get that success makes teachers soar. (Fullan, 2011 The Moral Imperative Realized)
